Brilliant Ideas: U-Ram Choe
Bloomberg’s Brilliant Ideas looks at the most exciting and acclaimed artists at work in the world today. We will feature top names and up-and-coming artists, the stars of tomorrow; painters, sculptors, digital, conceptual and performance artists, photographers, land and street artists. Bloomberg TV has covered the globe to talk with these artists in their studios and exhibition points. Through intimate conversations we reveal their Brilliant Ideas.
U-Ram Choe was born in 1970 in Seoul, South Korea. Life and movement have always been a part of U-ram’s work – from his early, rudimentary scuttling boxes, to the highly ornate metallic “organisms” that currently dominate his output, and for which he is best-known. Straddling the realms of reality and the fantastical, U-ram employs an astonishing degree of mechanical and electrical complexity to bring these “organisms” to life – each one able to convincingly mimic the breaths and movements of the very real creatures from which they are inspired. U-ram’s work has been exhibited at various international venues including the Asia Society Museum, New York, Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art, Seoul, and the Singapore Art Museum, among others.
