Freddie Gibbs got his first taste of rap success when he signed a deal with Interscope Records in 2007. But Gibbs was unable to capitalize on the opportunity, and within a few years found himself dropped. It was then, as he struck out on his own, that the rest of the world caught up to him, recognizing his effortless authenticity, pointed songwriting and prolific output. In the ensuing decade, Gibbs has only improved his craft, adding an innovative marketing angle to his enterprise. Today, he’s approaching 40 at the top of his game.
