Game Changers: Rupert Murdoch

An original documentary series providing an insider’s view on the business and media leaders who climbed to the top and changed our world: Steve Jobs, Jon Stewart, Anna Wintour, Richard Branson, Rupert Murdoch, and more.

BLOOMBERG GAME CHANGERS profiles News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch who created a global media empire worth more than $30 billion. As Chairman of News Corp, the Australian born Rupert Murdoch runs a global empire that includes newspapers, magazines, a movie studio, television stations, satellite operations, a publishing house and digital media platforms. Murdoch is responsible for tabloid newspapers like The New York Post while owning highly respected papers such as the Times of London and his most prized possession, The Wall Street Journal. Though he has been credited with modernizing the newspaper business, he has also been demonized as a union buster for his campaign against the printing unions in Great Britain. Murdoch took the U.S. by storm and became an American citizen in 1985 so that he could buy television stations. He bought 20th Century Fox, expanding the fabled Hollywood film studio into the world of television. He created a fourth network… FOX – and won the rights to broadcast NFL games on Fox TV. Murdoch owned Fox News Channel quickly overtook its competitors with its conservative and often controversial commentators. It is accepted among friends and foes alike that Rupert Murdoch will do anything to win and, even with all the great risks he has taken, he has a remarkable winning record. Interviews include Peter Chernin, former President and COO of News Corps, David Hill, Chairman of Fox Sports, Baroness Brenda Dean, former UK union official, Sarah Ellison, author “War at the Wall Street Journal”, Garth Ancier, former President of Fox Television, Andrew Butcher, former Senior VP of Corporate Affairs and Communications.
