Bloomberg’s Brilliant Ideas looks at the most exciting and acclaimed artists at work in the world today. We will feature top names and up-and-coming artists, the stars of tomorrow; painters, sculptors, digital, conceptual and performance artists, photographers, land and street artists. Bloomberg TV has covered the globe to talk with these artists in their studios and exhibition points. Through intimate conversations we reveal their Brilliant Ideas.

Danny Lane was born in Urbana, Illinois in 1955. He moved to Maine in 1975 to study with Patrick Reyntiens, an artist working in stained glass. He moved to the UK in the 1980s and is based in west London. Danny is fascinated by experiment, trial-and error-taking – working without a rulebook. He works in glass, wood and steel, creating works on a monumental scale, with apparent simplicity. He uses refractive and reflective qualities of the materials to engage the viewer. Danny’s work is in museums and collections worldwide. Significant commissions include a balustrade of stacked glass for the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Site specific works such as ‘Opening Line’, 2004, Gateshead, UK and ‘Assembly Field’, 2006, National Assembly for Wales.
