Brilliant Ideas: Diana Thater

Bloomberg’s Brilliant Ideas looks at the most exciting and acclaimed artists at work in the world today. We will feature top names and up-and-coming artists, the stars of tomorrow; painters, sculptors, digital, conceptual and performance artists, photographers, land and street artists. Bloomberg TV has covered the globe to talk with these artists in their studios and exhibition points. Through intimate conversations we reveal their Brilliant Ideas.

Born in 1962 in San Francisco, Diana has been a pioneering creator of video, film and installation art over the past 25 years. Her work explores the relationship between humans, animals, and ecosystems. E.g. the underwater world of dolphins; honeybees who communicate through dancing; and monkeys in Jaipur, India. Her ground breaking, immersive installations push the physical and conceptual boundaries of how we experience moving images. The viewers’ assumptions are challenged through Diana’s use of colour, movement and scale. The most comprehensive exhibition of her work to date – Diana Thater: The Sympathetic Imagination – is at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The exhibition is at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago from Oct 22, 2016 to 15 Jan, 2017.
